Services
Shoeing
Shoeing is offered as needed for any type of horse. I use steel, aluminum, and composite shoes, which are available in a variety of styles to suit your horse's needs, help with conformational flaws (when possible), and to complement their way of going and workload. Consideration is always given to the breed, discipline, the environment the horse lives in, and the environment the horse may compete in. Shoes are always shaped, hot or cold, to fit each individual foot, as no two feet are ever the same. Drilling and tapping shoes for screw in caulks, pads, packing (synthetic or natural), and winter pads and traction are also available.
trimming
At one of the first conferences I went to, Lecturer Mark Caldwell asked the room full of farriers how many were "barefoot trimmers." Not surprisingly, no one raised their hand. Mark then laughed and said "Well that's funny because I don't know anyone that trims a horse with the shoes still on."
There are differences between how a foot is trimmed to be left barefoot and a foot trimmed to be shod; any competent farrier should be capable of doing either. Many of my client's horses are left barefoot, and that's ok! If your horses' needs can be met without shoes, I am happy to trim them and leave them barefoot. However, you should take solace in the fact that if the situation arises where you DO need shoes for your horse (not EVERYTHING can be solved with a trim), I can also provide that service for you.
I won't try to dazzle you with fancy lingo like "mustang roll" or "abnormal compensatory posture", but I will trim your horse using the theories of Dave Duckett and Mike Savoldi, while working to achieve a hoof that compliments your horse's conformation and is functional for your horse's lifestyle. If you are interested, I am always happy to discuss what I see in your horse's feet and conformation and what I am doing.
